The Nostalgic, Futurist Piano Man – Daniel Lanois: Player, Piano
Canadian-born Daniel Lanois has one of the most interesting and diversely curated careers of any musician, engineer or producer in our time. With seven Grammy Awards to his credit, he is one of the pioneers of modern ambient music thanks to his early collaborations with Brian Eno, Roger Eno, Harold Budd and Michael Brook on the seminal Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks, The Pearl and Hybrid albums. His engineering and production credits include Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree by U2, Peter Gabriel So, Oh Mercy and Time Out of Mind by Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris Wrecking Ball, and Willie Nelson Teatro, to name a few. He also has a string of musical creations and collaborations, showcasing his unique, uncompromising, creative spirit.
His latest release, Player, Piano, is a 13-song collection of cinematic piano-based tone poems bathed in processed electronic sound clouds. All created with striking microphone techniques, physical piano treatments and vintage effects processes, along with the occasional percussion and organ loop, and more.
