The Art of Drum Recording with Elliot Scheiner

Four months ago in our September 2024 issue, I sat down to discuss mixing considerations and techniques with Elliot Scheiner—Steely Dan, Toto, The Eagles, Foo Fighters, Van Morrison and the list goes on. Scheiner’s accolades include 8 GRAMMY Awards (plus over 25 GRAMMY nominations), 2 Emmys and 3 TEC Awards, and beyond that 91 Platinum and 14 Gold album certifications.

To summarize that interview, Elliot has been behind the board for some of the most universally lauded mixes of all time. He has also captured and recorded some of the greatest drum tones of some of the finest drummers in history. This second fact led to his being featured in the recent State of the Art SDX for Superior Drummer 3 from Toontrack.
