
Recording Techniques – Microphone Experiments
Whether you are new to recording or an industry pro, when it comes to microphones, we all accept a few standard approaches we are more or less content to stick with. Large-diaphragm condenser microphones are for vocalists, most acoustic instruments and typically drum overheads. Dynamic mics like the venerable Shure SM57 are for snare drums and guitar amps. And Ribbon mics are for vibe, as well as the occasional “vintage” vocal and guitar amps.
But what about alternative and interesting uses for these (and other) microphones?
