RECORDING Field Notes – Drums!

As a lifelong drummer, this is one of my favorite times of the year, Drum Recording Month at RECORDING Magazine! Since this is my first entry in the new Field Notes column, I’m starting with a clean slate, and I’ll be casting my net broadly in an attempt to catch up with everything that’s happened up to now. Without further ado, I give you a semi-random tour of all things drum-related as translated from my handwritten field notes.

With a subject that is as deep as drums, I’m going to start with the big picture, the establishing wide shot, so to speak. With that in mind, here are what I consider to be the three essential elements of the drumming universe: The beat, The drum, and The drummer.
