Musical Shape-Shifting: New Pleasures in New Worlds with Arp
Arp is the musical identity of New York-based electronic composer and producer Alexis Georgopoulos. His projects include The Alps, Masks Tussle and collaborations with Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. New Pleasures is the eighth release by Arp and is the second step in a trilogy that began with Zebra in 2018.
Zebra was an intoxicating genre-bending textural soundscape of sparkling pads, melting synth tones, jazz drums, tribal percussion, retro-synth leads, bass and marimba. Where Zebra was more organic, spacious and tribal, New Pleasures offers listeners a synthetic urban scenic view. Vintage synth tones, classic drum machines, fretless bass and marimba expertly mingle in a retro-futurist landscape that tangibly evokes the classic new-romantic movement, art-rock, and synth-pop of the late 1970s and early 1980s. On top of this, the recording quality and mix are stunning.
