Inside the Studio with Mark Hornsby: Amplifier Profiling with Carl Verheyen

Some of you might remember my good friend and guitar virtuoso Carl Verheyen from our July 2020 issue. Given the current demand for working remotely, Carl and I discussed different ways to reconfigure his home studio to streamline the workflow. Carl records lots of guitars for me, and I mix lots of stuff for him, plus Carl has a ton of gear. Miking all of it up at his house, while doable, isn’t always preferred or feasible. I suggested to Carl that he check out the Kemper as a means of having all his amp sounds just a click away. Our friends at Sweetwater sent us a Kemper, and we tried it out on a couple of things. Then we tried it out on some more things. The next thing you know, we had decided to profile most of his amp collection. But that’s a lot of work! So, after much thought and several glasses of wine in a socially distanced environment, we decided to profile his entire collection and make it available to the public. Here’s how we did it...
