Inside the Studio – The Recording Trinity
TheRoom, TheSpeakers and TheEngineer
Recently, I spoke with a young aspiring recording engineer who was planning a new studio build. They had allocated $150,000 for a top-of-the-line recording console, yet no budget for any acoustic treatments or proper studio infrastructure. At the same time, they were mixing in a room barely larger than a closet and relying almost entirely on headphones for reference.
“It’s good enough,” they said.
That phrase should send a chill down the spine of anyone who cares about recorded sound. To be blunt, good enough is never good enough—and it is rarely even OK.
