Inside the Studio - Designing Tommy Lee’s Personal Studio
Most people recognize Tommy Lee from the iconic hard rock band Mötley Crüe or various reality shows and TV series. Even though he is still active with Mötley Crüe, Tommy is also a solo artist, a prolific songwriter, an animal rights activist and a dedicated husband.
Aside from the Crüe and his solo efforts, Tommy also loves collaboration and has appeared on projects as diverse as Smashing Pumpkins to Richard Marx and CeeLo Green to Post Malone.
In 2021, Tommy contacted the Russ Berger Design Group team to help design a new studio at his home in Los Angeles. This space would not only reflect his current diversities as a producer and recording artist but also allow for current production trends in recorded music.
I was personally pretty excited to dig into this project. Dr. Feelgood was (and is) one of my favorite hard rock albums of all time. I still love the drum sounds on that record that Tommy and producer Bob Rock achieved.
While production trends and studio design have changed over the years, the laws of physics haven’t. Good studio design takes proper planning, attention to detail, and most importantly, Listening to your client.
