From Solo Instruments To An Orchestral Score
Clever Miking Combines With Creative Mixing to Turn a Few Players Into a Full Orchestra
As of today, there is really no way to recreate the sound of a full-size orchestra recorded live. That’s why every big-budget film production still spends many thousands of dollars recording at AIR Studios, Abbey Road, or LA scoring stages. A sampled orchestra can’t sound exactly like the real thing... but we can do our best to close the gap between the two options. As a score mix engineer, I will focus on film, but these ideas work well with video/Internet content and for straight-up music production as well.
