Crafting Sonic Stories in The Room with Ricky Reed
As both a songwriter and a producer, over the past decade Grammy Award-nominated Ricky Reed has worked with artists including CeeLo Green, Pitbull, Jason Derulo, Kesha, Leon Bridges, Megan Trainor, Lizzo and a host of others. Despite this, it wasn’t until 2020 that Ricky chose to record and release an album under his own name. Titled The Room, Ricky’s debut continues the collabo-rative spirit, featuring the talents of duendita, Lido Pimienta, Leon Bridges, Dirty Projectors, Ayoni, Malaya, Jim James, Michael Sneed, Godfather666, St. Panther, Biloba, Kiana Lede and others. Like many albums produced this past year, The Room was written, improvised, and tracked remotely, much of it during Reed’s NICE LIVE! YouTube sessions. While The Room features Reed’s undeniable modern pop production, the songs have a moody, atmospheric edge that tells stories. Sit back as Ricky gives us a tour of the tools, techniques and talent used to construct The Room.
