Capturing Immersive Space – Recording and Mixing in Dolby Atmos with Justin Gray

Justin Gray is a Toronto-based bassist, composer, producer, immersive audio mixer and mastering engineer, as well as a professor at Humber Polytechnic. He has been working in immersive audio long before it became part of the mainstream conversation. To date, he has mixed and mastered thousands of spatial releases for artists across a wide range of genres.

His own album Immersed was conceived—and more notably, recorded—from the ground up in Dolby Atmos, earning the GRAMMY Award for Best Immersive Audio Album. The project captures Gray’s core philosophy: using space as a compositional tool while staying rooted in groove, melody and arrangement.
