Artists on Atmos – Six artists share their thoughts on recording in Dolby Atmos
Dolby Atmos has largely been viewed as a mixing format—one where already recorded albums, whether “front line” current productions or classic catalogue releases, are remixed into an object-based immersive environment.
More recently, however, a growing number of engineers have begun recording projects from the ground up in Atmos using both DIY approaches and emerging tools like the Immersive Design Labs 7.0.4 Immersive Recording Array.
Alongside innovators like Justin Gray, our own regular contributor Will Kennedy, together with Matt Wallace, has now completed three Atmos recording projects.
With that in mind, we thought it would be both fun and informative to hear directly from the musicians involved.
Please welcome Willy Porter (acoustic guitar, vocals), Mai Bloomfield (cello, vocals), Carmen Nickerson (vocals, percussion) and Ryan Pearl (acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin) from the Willy Porter release, Humans In A Room; Jacob Mann of the Jacob Mann Band; and Charlie Paxson from Death Diamond.
