In the June 2023 issue of RECORDING, I wrote a step-by-step walkthrough of the Dolby Atmos Renderer, where I offhandedly mentioned that delivery systems for binaural (headphone) Atmos mixes could be an article all on its own. As the old adage goes, “Be careful what you wish for!” We will now attempt to untangle what’s currently happening with Atmos headphone listening and help inform your Atmos mixing process.
