That One Instrument Mic
As a recording engineer, sticking microphones in front of things is what we do—in addition to editing, mixing and making coffee. Choosing the right mic for every instrument can be as simple as using what you have, or it can be an endless quest of collecting, experimenting, and trial and error.
Once again, to aid us on our quest, RECORDING went straight to the people who build, sell and distribute microphones, to answer the following questions:
In your product line, what model would you most recommend for general instrument recording?
What source do you think your selected mic shines or stands out on?
Bonus question: what is the weirdest, most unique or exotic instrument that someone has captured with the selected mic?
