Studio 101 – An Intro to Drum Recording
Welcome to the return of Studio 101, where each month, we’ll get back to the basics of recording.
Whether you are new to the art of recording and production and need a little primer on the terminology, techniques and tools of the trade, or perhaps you need a refresher or a new perspective, you’ve come to the right place.
Perhaps a bit different from past Studio 101 installments, rather than taking a first-steps approach (sound waves > microphone > interface), we will be basing our lessons on the specific theme of each issue. This month’s theme is drum recording, so this inaugural column will cover primary considerations for recording an acoustic drumkit. This time around, we will focus on miking approaches and setup, leaving aspects like drum tuning and potential mix processing aside for now.
