Stewart Copeland needs no introduction. By the time The Police wrapped its 80s run as “the biggest band in the world,” drummer Stewart was already a pop icon, poster boy, and a drummer’s drummer, wildly popular among players for his perfect sound and style. After the Police, Stewart launched himself into fresh avant-pop projects such as Animal Logic and Oysterhead, both ‘supergroups’—the former with legendary jazz bassist Stanley Clarke, the latter with jam band progenitors Les Claypool (Primus) and Trey Anastasio (Phish). He also launched a successful career composing soundtracks, among them Talk Radio, Wall Street, and the incredible music in Rumble Fish. In addition to his ongoing work as a film and television composer, Copeland recently collaborated with fellow Grammy® winner and Indian music Composer Ricky Kej on the Grammy® nominated Divine Tides, a tribute to the magnificence of our natural world and the resilience of our species. Musically, Divine Tides is a diverse soundscape of melodies, lush ambient textures, and pulsating rhythms, all seamlessly woven together by Copeland and Kej along with a rainbow coalition of virtuosic musicians, broadcasters, and producers, including Sumarani (sitar), Rasika Shekar (vocals/flute), Sir David Attenborough, and producer Lonnie Park, to name a few.
