Southern Avenue and the Modern Memphis Sound

Southern Avenue is a Memphis-based band featuring Israeli-born guitarist Ori Naftaly, sisters Tierinii and Tikyra Jackson (vocals, drums), bassist Evan Sarver, and Jeremy Powell on keys. Southern Avenue describe themselves as a soul / roots band, but they are also strongly influenced by blues, gospel, funk, and even hints of acid jazz. The band’s latest effort, Be The Love You Want, was co-produced by Ori alongside Grammy Award-winning artist Steve Berlin, known for his work with his band Los Lobos as well as with the likes of Susan Tedeschi, Jackie Green, Deer Tick, Ricky Lee Jones and countless others as a sax player, keyboardist and producer.
