Session Log - The Angelheaded Hipster - Part 8: Studio Choice Matters

In this installment of Session Log, we look at where the magic happens. Recording studios are sacred places to all who cross their thresholds, let their guard down, show their vulnerabilities, and give their best performances. Capturing all of the above for posterity is also one of the primary reasons I always advocate that everything is recorded at the highest quality possible.

There are a lot of factors that go into selecting a studio. Sometimes the choice is dictated by an artist’s preference, sometimes it’s the engineer’s selection, sometimes the arranger has a place they like to work, and often the producer has the final word. Often it is also a matter of finance as well as what is available on the given day. On a star-studded album such as AngelHeaded Hipster, the artist’s schedule dictates everything, and you have to build around that.
