Session Log - The Angelheaded Hipster - Part 5: Brass, Strings & Arrangements

In last month’s installment of our yearlong look at making the Marc Bolan & T. Rex tribute album, The AngelHeaded Hipster, we took a moment to focus on producer Hal Willner, his amazing body of work and his charismatic figure. I hope that this has awakened or renewed your interest in his style and modus operandi. This month, in addition to the mechanics of brass and string recording, we learn about how a producer like Hal interacted with the arrangers and how an engineer such as myself fields the preferences and requests of the arranger balanced with the expectations of the producer.
