Session Log - The Angelheaded Hipster - Part 2: Vocals

Last month in RECORDING, I embarked on the maiden voyage of recounting the making of the multi-artist concept album AngelHeaded Hipster: the Songs of Marc Bolan & T. Rex. Being the engineer on that entire 26-track album, I took photos and notes during most of the sessions. I was fortunate to record almost all of the many singers that producer Hal Willner invited to participate, including but not limited to Nick Cave, Joan Jett, Bono, Elton John, Todd Rundgren, Sean Lennon and many others. Last month in Part 1, we talked about tracking the drums; we’ll be talking about how the vocals were captured in this chapter.
