Session Log - The Angelheaded Hipster - Part 11: Home Mixing in Home Studios

In Part 9 (September) of this series, I discussed mixing  AngelHeaded Hipster in multiple studios over multiple years, but the real mixing of this album actually started outside of the big studios, usually in one of my two homes, or even on the occasional plane flight. This month I want to shed light on what my mixing process is at home.

Thanks to today’s record-making economy, much of my mixing work starts and ends in my home. I knew over a decade ago that to stay in the game required learning to mix well in the box. However, in the case of this album, the final mixes eventually all made it through a vintage analog console. None of them ended as in-the-box mixes, although most started as one. Special thanks to Kate Hyman from BMG UK (a great friend and supporter of producer Hal Willner) and the executive producers Ethan Silverman and Bill Curbishley for making this possible.
