RECORDING Field Notes – Recording Electric Guitars

Technically speaking, we don’t actually record electric guitars. We record the speaker connected to the amp connected to (eventually) the electric guitar. Our primary goal is often simply to capture the amp’s tone (ahem, the speaker) as faithfully as possible. With this in mind, I think it can be helpful to understand what the speaker in a typical guitar amp is actually doing. Where does the sound come from?  So, it’s off to the studio today to explore: the speaker.
