How many times have you heard it— “Why are we not recording this?” You’ve been there: sitting around the campfire, hiking across the Great Plains, sailing around the Dry Tortugas, or trekking up Mount Rainer, when someone pulls out a $10,000 guitar and performs the most exquisite song you’ve ever heard… happens all the time, right? When you try to recapture that moment later in a studio, it doesn’t work most of the time. The vibe just isn’t right. No matter how hard we try, our temples of tone just don’t speak the same language as the dolphins off the coast of Key West. So, what do we do? We need to be prepared for when creativity strikes.

The good news is, today, more and more awesome performances are being recorded outside of a studio. Also, gone are the days of looking down our noses at a smartphone recording. This is the new world order. Sure, there’s a separation of consistency between mobile devices that can record something usable inside a finished production. However, there are tools on the market that can make this a bit easier.
