As we continue our endless search for the ‘best’ vocal mic, I can’t help but wonder—what about the rest of the vocal chain? There’s a synergy that happens in the vocal chain. It’s the microphone, the mic pre, the compressor, the EQ, the converter and most importantly, the vocalist. So much time and energy get put into chasing the vocal mic; attention can get pulled away from the rest of the gear. But does it matter? Cue the story.
