Inside the Studio - Return to Crossway
Earlier this year, in the June issue, I relayed the tale of the quest to bring Whitney Houston’s (and Bobby Brown’s) former residential recording studio back to life. Now known as Crossway Studio, the building had changed hands a couple of times over the years. All the acoustical treatments, wiring and millwork—most everything that made it a functioning studio, had been completely removed during previous renovations to make it home.
Russ Berger and I redesigned the entire studio for its new owner, producer Hal Cohen, and his wife, Hilda. In the process of returning the space to full studio status for tracking and mixing, we converted the once-stereo control room into an immersive 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos mixing environment. As mentioned, check out the June Immersive Audio issue of RECORDING for the complete saga.
