Practical Methods For Studio Acoustics At Home

In the first installment of this series (March 2019), we looked at the prob-lems presented by small rooms when it comes to setting up a studio for audio production. We looked at the room I will be using for the next few years for such work, and explored why this room is too small, too square, with other problems that present a challenge to creating a good, accurate audio environment.

We also went over how I set up the room, designed a convertible standing workstation for maximum ergonomics, with good placement for the listening position(s) and two sets of satellite speakers. We ended Part 1 with assurances that subwoofer and DSP strategies will be critical, as well as extensive acoustic treatment. Part 3 of this series will cover the treatments, but let’s dive into what can be done with small rooms, multiple subwoofers, and DSP to improve audio quality.
