An Interview with Nate Wood

Nate Wood is a multi-instrumentalist and mastering engineer based in New York City. While Nate plays bass, guitar, keyboards and sings, he is perhaps best known as an accomplished drummer. Be sure to check him out on YouTube, as Nate is also known for playing drums, bass and keys simultaneously, both solo and with Nate Wood - FOUR—and making it look easy.

Throughout the years, he has recorded and/or played live with Chaka Khan, Sting, Wayne Krantz, Donny McCaslin, The Calling, Tigran Hamasyan, Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, and Dave Grohl, as well as his many solo projects and work with his bands Kneebody and Nate Wood - FOUR. Most recently, Nate was asked by Steven Wilson (interviewed in last month’s issue) to play drums on the song “Impossible Tightrope” from the album The Harmony Codex.

In the following interview, Nate discusses drum recording in his New York studio and his mastering work at home and on the go.
